“FOR IT IS GOD WHICH WORKETH IN YOU BOTH TO WILL AND TO DO OF HIS GOOD PLEASURE.”
Without desire or a purposed thought what seed would ever be planted? Without water and sunlight and minerals and care, what seed would ever grow? Growth itself is a combination of many things.
All things grow by being fed. And so the obvious of question is this… Whose seeds are planted in your very mind, affections and desires? And what is their state even now?
God, as the scripture says, works in us. Like when a farmer or anyone, even a child, digs a hole in the ground to fix and place seeds in the ground, so to does God. He works. Yes, God Almighty is working. Not 9 to 5, not even 24/7. God works in His own “time”. He does not sleep and He is never tired. He is God and He is working.
The work that God has done and is doing is not difficult to locate because He has plainly revel this knowledge to us.
I saw a squirrel with an acorn in its mouth as it made use of its front paws, digging a hole for it. Then I saw others searching for acorns they had already positioned. Their search took them all over the field. But God Almighty’s work is located right in you. In me. In us. Yes. That is where His work abides. Right in us. In our minds and thoughts (as we are thinking moment by moment). His works are in our soul as our desires and ways. And, God’s works are in our heart. Yes, our affections.
All of His works are in us for these two reasons as the scripture says, to will AND to do.
noun: will; plural noun: wills
Expressing a command: expressing desire, consent, or willingness want, see fit, best, choose, prefer A deliberate or fixed desire or intention desire, intention, intent, volition The thing that one desires or ordains desire, decision, choice;
verb: do; 3rd person present: does; past tense: did; gerund or present participle: doing; past participle: done
Perform an action carry out, undertake, discharge, execute, perform, accomplish, achieve Work on (something) to bring it to completion or to a required state. prepare, make, get ready, see to, arrange, organize, be responsible for, be in charge of; Make or have available and provide make, create, produce, turn out, design, manufacture; Solve; Work out work out, figure out, calculate
God’s works of His good pleasure in us that we might desire them, know them, even understand them, to carry them out in action onto completion. A finished work is better than a work that is just underway, yet a work underway is a work heading towards completion.
Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work.
I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
